You Are an Expert SEO, but How Do You Prove It?

//?#

I’m not doubting that you are a qualified Expert SEO, but my question for you is, “How do you prove just how qualified you are, especially when attempting to solicit new clients?”

Now before you take the question personally (please don’t!), let’s step back and ask this in a more general, industry-centric way.  How does anyone prove that they are an expert SEO?  What are the qualifications or milestones and how does one prove that they have earned the title?

Years ago (many years ago!), it used to be that all one had to do is show the results in the SERPs (Search Engine Result Pages) and demonstrate to their future clients how quickly they could give them top rankings.  (It was also a lot easier back then to get a top ranking!).

However, now there are all of these rules.  (Are they really rules, or just a particular entity’s “opinion” and then again, that opinion does, uh, matter quite a bit if one is ranking on that “entity,” if you know what I mean.)

Before I talk in circles more than what I am already doing, let’s just say that results do not always prove capability and capability is not always demonstrated in results.

So, let’s go back to our original question.  How can you prove you competence, and more importantly, your expertise in the area of search engine optimization?

Let me offer one way of proving yourself, or at least providing something tangible that your clients may be able to see with their own eyes.  That is, certification.

Certification Demonstrates Acquisition (Mastery) of Knowledge

Certification is not a new concept.  In fact, there are many different companies who offer certification and offer it for different knowledge areas.

There are many different skill sets for which you can get certified out there in the real, as well as the virtual world.  For example, the ever-popular (but often expensive) case of investing in training and experience for the PMP certification is an example of certification on the higher end of the spectrum.  But, there are also other free certification programs (including HubSpot) available to whet your appetite and get you ready for bigger and better opportunities.  That is just a mention of two ends of the spectrum of training and certification available on the internet.

By the way, speaking of the PMP (Project Management) certification, Simplilearn offers their self-paced training for only $299 USD, compared to thousands of dollars charged by other companies/competitors.  And, speaking from my own personal experience, having spent too much money for a PMP training program from a presumably reputable company, that turned out to be riddled with errors, spending more money for the Simplilearn’s competitors does not mean that you receive the quality that should come along with that high price tag!

Fortunately, Simplilearn, from what I have heard, delivers on that high quality!

Read further down to hear about some of those favorable things that are said about Simplilearn, not just my words, but other learners who have taken the Simplilearn course(s)!

Whichever path you choose, there are quite a few options available when it comes to “getting certified” in your skill set (and new skill sets).

In this case, since we are talking about proving that you are an expert in the knowledge and application of search engine optimization skills and the skill set as a whole, we would be referencing a type of SEO certification.  And, I know just the place that offers the training that you need for SEO certification.  That place is Simplilearn.

Simplilearn’s Track Record of Excellent Ratings

Simplilearn, with their “Advanced Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Certification Training” has done very well for themselves, with 1,318 learners and a near perfect star rating.  Almost fifteen hundred students can’t be wrong, can they?

Tip:  When you are looking for a training company and/or a certification company, be sure to see what others say about them.  You want to check out the testimonials, the reviews, the ratings.  In this case, Simplilearn has them.

Online Learning at its Best

Online learning has been around for a while.  Several universities offer it and have developed ways for learners to incorporate traditional methods of learning in virtual (privacy of their own homes) environments.

Simplilearn has done the same thing and offers it in a self-paced environment.  Years ago, before the internet, self-paced courses were offered through the mail and sometimes called “correspondence courses.”  Now, with the advent of the internet, it is much easier to go through a fulfilling training process, with access to instructors (who are experts themselves) and to pace through the program at a rate that is comfortable for you, and conducive to your busy schedule (as we all have these days!).

Simplilearn also offers training for certification in other programs, such as their Digital Marketing Certified Associate course.

What Are People Saying About the Simplilearn Training Experience?

Gail Gardner, proprietress of the popular GrowMap.com web site has only good things to say about her experience as a Simplilearn learner.

In fact, she has written quite an extensive recommendation of the Simplilearn programs on her own site, at “Simplilearn Digital Marketing Training: Get Qualified Now for High Paying In-Demand Jobs.”

Need Some More Convincing?

If the provision of a way of proving that you are truly the expert SEO that you know that you are (and have been saying that you are) is not reason enough, there are plenty more reasons why this SEO training is something that is highly appealing to those interested in SEO.  (And, don’t forget about the other training opportunities that Simplilearn offers, even though we are talking about SEO here!).

Here is a broad list and I know that you can add to it!

  • Proof that you know your stuff;
  • No matter how much we know, we can always learn more, and here is your opportunity to learn more about SEO;
  • The opportunity to practice your skills while under the tutelage of the masters;
  • Becoming a “Master” yourself (maybe teaching someday?);
  • Getting up to speed on all of the new information; techniques; analytics; tips; strategies (need I list more?);
  • Interactive methods of learning, including workbooks, exercise, and quizzes that help to test your knowledge and give you a feel for where you are in the learning process;
  • The knowledge breadth of SEO topics >> start to finish;
  • A simulation exam for that practice run at it before the real thing;
  • And, bringing it full circle, that certificate of completion of your training.

In Conclusion…

It is very likely that when you have completed this SEO coursework and training (Advanced Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Certification Training) that you may not even feel the need to actually “prove” yourself.  You will have gained so much confidence in what you have already been practicing (and have now enhanced beyond that beginning point) that you naturally exude the confidence and strength in what you are doing.

Your peers and your future clients will be able to sense this and naturally follow your lead.  They will likely be moved by your confidence and be drawn to you.  It wouldn’t surprise me (assuming you target the completion of your training) if those clients are flocking to YOU as that expert SEO!   Once that happens, consider yourself having proven that you know your stuff, and all thanks to taking that step toward SEO Certification and the Search Engine Optimization Training like that which is offered by Simplilearn.

10 Creative Skill Set Ideas to Increase Your Income

Judging from the way that our culture is growing in leaps and bounds, in different directions, it would not be surprising if you are reading this on a tablet, laptop, or smartphone.

Financial Concerns That Accompany the Digital Age Culture discussed on GrowMap.com

We live in a digital world, and while there are still a few people who may prefer a hardcover book, many people are likely to agree that being able to read the news while “on the go” is thrilling.

Or, in the same situation, stopping to search for the next movie that is showing in the nearby theater is also a thrill. It has become a part of the way we live. It is part of our culture.

Financial Concerns That Accompany the Digital Age Culture

Along with all of the wonderful things and capabilities that come with the digital age, there is this thing that is tied up in the financial concerns or, as some people put it, “financial crisis.”

No matter how you define it, there are those who are unemployed or underemployed and more and more, this is happening to even the most skilled individuals.

Let’s start at a base level. When it comes down to skill sets, digital is where it’s at these days. Whether you work at a marketing firm or you are a budding entrepreneur, there is room to fine-tune your digital skill set. Am I right?

In some cases, I dare say that fine-tuning your digital skill set may be considered a “must” or in our day and age, a “must-have.”

Now, you may be asking what using a digital tablet on a subway has to do with a list of 10 Skill Set Ideas.  Well, it is simply that:

1) in some ways we are replaced by the technology and automation that helps to allow the digital automation to be possible

2) having skills sets related to the digital age culture may be the difference between having an income and not having an income.

Hey, even skills that don’t seem to be related at all may help to augment that income that was replaced by a bot or a drone, eh?

A List of Skills to Consider

None of the skills on this list are necessarily what one would say are absolutely “required” in order to survive in the digital world.  However, these skills include some creative options that you could look into when you have free time.

In other words, when you are looking to augment that skill set, it is a good time to pull out this list. That time may even be now!

If nothing else, at the very least, adding these skills will allow you to be better equipped when it comes to communicating with your colleagues and when collaborating on projects.

It may even make the difference in boosting your brand to stardom, especially if you are that fledgling entrepreneur who is headed toward being the next Steve Jobs.

Skill #1: Well-Rounded Social Media Expert

Deemed as one of the best news sources for social and digital media, Mashable offers you comprehensive Facebook and Twitter guides. Why is this helpful?

These guides help to explain everything from the nuts and bolts of each site to optimizing your profile on these platforms and getting those profiles ready for your business.

All you need to do is type “how to” in the search box on the Mashable website and start reading/viewing/downloading. Also, there are several guides on how to use Google analytics, developing your social media strategy, and measuring social media return on investment (ROI).

By the way, well-rounded is good.  This is especially the case if you were to start your own digital marketing agency (Yes, dream big!).

However, it is also important to know when to have focus.  A good example is this wonderful GrowMap article by Tim Stoddart:  “Why Your Marketing Firm Should Specialize in an Industry.”

Skill #2: Game Designer

Another thing that is popular in our culture is gaming! It doesn’t matter if you don’t play games, yourself (likely you do and may not realize it), the gaming industry is booming. And, there is nothing unusual about game designers working from home, in their virtual offices, or even in their pajamas. The idea is that there is a fun game created and that game is making millions for the owner, in other words, the one signing the checks for the game designer. How do you become one? Visit places like gamedesigning.org and get started!

Skill #3:  The Best “Community Builder” Consultant on the Web

Staying true to New York style, this marketing firm specializes in social media and definitely likes to share its knowledge. The “Resources” section on likeable.com gives you access to webìnars such as “How to Build Better Communities on Facebook.” Ooh… I know where I am going after writing this article.

Seriously, though, sometimes the acquisition of additional skills has more to do with keeping organized and also having a focus (and keeping a focus) on what it is that you want to do. Whiteboards come in handy with this, as well. Oh, and plenty of sleep and taking care of yourself, health-wise!

Skill #4: Beginner Level Adobe Photoshop Trainer

If you’ve been looking for a place to refine your photo retouching skills, you’ve come to the right place. Adobe offers 26 lectures 100 percent free for you to learn the basics of Photoshop. It makes sense, doesn’t it? Why not go to the source when it comes to learning how to use Adobe Photoshop, eh? And, coming from someone who used to teach advanced Photoshop (me), it is not like you have to be the expert of all experts. A few basic skills will take you a long way in the opportunity for a couple extra bucks on the side.

Skill #5: Consultant Presenting WordPress for Beginners

If you’ve always wanted to build your own blog or website, now’s your chance! This site (Lynda.com) is a great way to learn the basics of WordPress, as well as a plethora of other opportunities for learning. It is a wonderful source of knowledge. Just remember that it is easy to become distracted, so remember what your ultimate goal is when visiting a resourceful site like this.

Skill #6: Level 1 Python Programmer

This Python Wiki will cover all of the basics and will also provide you with the essentials you need to move forward towards more advanced programming. This wiki provides the list of what you need, specifically in the python programming. It also introduces you to relevant communities. We all know that communities are priceless when it comes to finding the help you need (and give!).

Skill #7: Brand Management (and More!)

This website will teach you the ins and outs of mapping out strategies for effective brand management, communicating successfully with your clients, and running not just a tight ship, but one that outdoes the competition while keeping the warmth in that company / client business relationship. Start with the story of who they are, from the LinkedIn business profile page and branch out from there. Just the path of inspiration alone will help you to build on your skill set in understanding and in accomplishment.

Skill #8: (Search Engine Optimization) SEO Consultant (even if a beginner yourself!)

Even if you are not working in SEO now, it’s a fantastic skill to pick up to better understand exactly how the internet works. You can learn how to drive traffic to your website, craft keywords, and how different sites compete for visibility. There is really no better place to start than the Moz Blog, keeping up on the newest technologies as well as the newest changes in search algorithms, etc.

Skill #9: Google Analytics Expert

This course will guide you through the different aspects of the program.  It also helps with the “how to” part of analyzing data when presented to you. More importantly, it will help you to become a certified partner of Google themselves. I mean, you can get much more authoritative than that, can you? It may not be the most exciting, but will likely prove to be one of the more rewarding, long-term.

Skill #10: LinkedIn Consultant

Give your professional network a boost while promoting your personal brand by learning the inner workings of LinkedIn. Boost your professional network and promote your personal brand by learning the ins and outs of LinkedIn in this book.

Ok, admittedly, I haven’t read the book. Perused it, yes. But think about it. If you are clueless about LinkedIn, this should help you get past first based. If you know a bit more about LinkedIn and you are already a heavy hitter, that is great!  Why use the book?  The book may help you over that hump to actually hang a shingle and say that YOU are the LinkedIn Expert. Through the use of this book, you can start to figure out your own way of presenting this material to someone like you used to be, when you started 🙂

Growing Your Skill Set discussed on GrowMap.com

In Closing

Did you notice something? This list of “skills” was more like a list of job titles or roles. Does that help inspire you?

So, you are feeling like you are worth more than what you are being paid (or not paid)?

Well, go ahead, pick one of these roles that appeals to you.  Then, use the source (and other sources) to start heading toward your dream role.

Two more suggestions.  First, ensure that you are taking care of yourself, getting rest, and realizing how wonderful you are and all of the successes that you have already accomplished!

Next, be sure to include those people in your life who are the most important.  You can always use a cheering section! Go ahead!  No better time to start than right now, eh?

What’s Up Bloggers! Roundup #7 with Christopher Jan Benitez

Continuing our “What’s Up Bloggers! Roundup” series, we are introducing you to Christopher Jan Benitez in our feature today.

Please also see our previous features, listed here:

As you know, the purpose of this series is to “introduce bloggers to more of their peers in the blogosphere and likely offer new opportunities to make friends, build collaborations, and get more traffic for your own blog.” Famous Bloggers Roundup #7 continues that “What’s Up, Bloggers!” series by introducing you to Christopher Jan Benitez.

Suggested Tool for Bloggers

As is our custom, the blogger tool recommendation comes from our featured blogger himself, from Christopher Jan Benitez. Christopher recommends the use of Grammarly. I have to second that. This tool is easy to desire to use faithfully (No, I’m not paid to say that). I always have a tab open to Grammarly so that I am ready to check anything and everything. It comes in handy for PhD Dissertations, too 🙂

Here is what Christopher says about Grammarly: “At the heart of blogging is the ability to communicate your ideas in a clear manner, which makes Grammarly Premium my weapon of choice. If you want to check and see if Grammarly Premium is for you, then you read my take on it here.”

You can also visit Grammarly by visiting Grammarly

I love this tool so much, personally, that I’m sure I’ve recommended it before, in previous write-ups! BTW, there is also a plugin for Grammarly. That enables the checking of your grammar within other settings, like WordPress, your web-based email program, and you can even get help with the Windows version of Microsoft Office. So, you don’t have to have the Grammarly tab open. I just like to have it ready at a moment’s notice. Disclaimer: I am a Mac user, so I haven’t tried it with Microsoft Word, on a Microsoft OS (it doesn’t work on the Mac Word version). However, Grammarly works so well in so many different settings that I can’t imagine it being a problem. And, that is a bonus! You still have Grammarly online and the plugins that enable it in other browser settings. People will start calling you a Grammar expert in no time!

Introducing Christopher Jan Benitez

This is how Christopher Jan Benitez describes himself, in his own words, “I am a freelance writer who provides actionable web content at affordable prices.” Christopher has made a living writing for different brands. What is the secret to his success? He aims to help improve his client’s site traffic and online authority. He does this by applying his talent, as a writer, to their success. Sounds like a great recipe, eh?  Well, it is definitely working for Christopher!

Christopher Jan Benitez

Some of Christopher Jan Benitez’s Accomplishments

Christopher has written articles that appear on countless reputable and authoritative sites. Those include Search Engine Journal, Lifehack.org, Business.com, and many others.

His expertise on topics such as digital marketing has allowed him to expand his expertise in writing gigs for these sites. It also helps that these writing gigs serve as proof that he is not only a prolific freelance writer, but also an authoritative one.

Christopher Jan Benitez’s Future Aspirations

According to Christopher, he is trying to become less of a writer and more of an entrepreneur. He is currently developing two boutique agencies: Authority Writing and GoSmrk. We should stay tuned to watch as he succeeds with these new ventures!

When asked about his aspirations, Christopher says:

“I could just stick to writing content for clients, especially since it has served me well in the past and will likely continue to do so in the future. However, I refuse to be complacent, and instead I want to keep learning in the area of how I can do even more to help businesses with their digital marketing needs and earn more money while I am doing so.”

Curious about Christopher’s writing? Here are some of Christopher’s recommended articles:

Wrapping Up the RoundUp/Feature

There you have it, another “episode” in our What’s Up, Bloggers! series, introducing you to bloggers you haven’t met before whose articles, research, experiments, advice, and opinions that will give you new opportunities to make friends, build collaborations, and get more traffic for your own blog. (Soon, we won’t be calling it “new” anymore!) Don’t forget to go introduce yourself to Christopher, and say hello.

Thanks for reading (and sharing)!

Your Blog with an Eye on the Needed SEO (Right from the Start)

We all know that we need to pay attention to SEO (search engine optimization) whether we are experts or not (or whether we want to be experts or not!). So, how do we start a new blog, equipped with the needed SEO foundations, without losing our head or losing our enjoyment of creating the blog?

Let’s discuss that!

A blog is one of the most powerful digital marketing tools you have at your disposal, but only if you know how to reach your target audience. Blogging is one of the quickest ways to increase your following and build your brand.

Even though there are millions of blogs online, it’s easy to make yours stand out even in the midst of the competition. In fact, even if you are like me and already have quite a few blogs online, that doesn’t mean that you cannot venture out and create yet another unique and brilliant blog!

We could probably sit down and list all of the fun aspects of the creation of that new blog, especially if it is one for which we feel passion. However, if no one is listening, it can get a bit lonely, eh? That is why it is so important to ensure that we are getting the word out, or more accurately, that we are drawing traffic to our blog, so that we have that audience.

By having that audience, it can help us to grow our passion even more and that will come out in the quality of the content that we produce on our blog. What is one of the most foundational aspects to growing that audience? It is ensuring that our blog is SEO optimized, right out of the starting gate.

Ok, have I really told you something that you don’t already know? After all, that is likely one of the reasons that you visit seochat.com, eh?

Ok, back to our topic… we can always “get the word out” at intermittent, strategic, and/or consistent intervals (preferably), but if we don’t start with a blog that has the basics, when it comes to SEO, we have a lot more work ahead of us. And, who wants to work when we can be producing content with all that brilliant passion, instead?

So, let’s get it started correctly, eh? In other words, it is easier to work “smart” than to work “hard,” right?

Getting Started… First Steps

Getting your blog up and running is much easier than one may think. In less than 30 minutes, you can have your blog up and running. So, without further adieu, let’s have a look and see how we can set up a blog in a few quick steps. Then, we will come back and talk a bit more about that SEO.

Choosing a Platform or Approach

Deciding where you want to create your blog is step one. If you are looking to save money, WordPress.com is an option. By far, it’s the largest blogging platform in the world, with an endless array of plugins and add-ons. You pretty much have an infinite amount of choices when it comes to designing your blog. There is also an option to host a WordPress installation in a self-hosted environment.

To Host or Not to Host (Also, To Register or Not to Register… a Domain)

Before we go any further, you need to decide whether you want to self-host or go with a free alternative. While there are pros and cons of both options, take note that with a free service, you won’t be able to have your own domain name.

If you are just blogging for fun, that’s okay, but for businesses trying to make a name for themselves, it is much better to go with a paid service where you can “own” your domain. (Technically, you are registering a domain name and leasing it, but many times people confuse that with ownership and it is called “owning” a domain, in slang terms.)

Along with SEO, this (“owning of the domain”) can increase website traffic by leaps and bounds. You see, having your own domain establishes your brand and your credibility. It helps to build trust in your business.

Design Your Blog

Designing the blog is where you get to choose your theme. Before jumping in with both feet, think about your business and what type of vibe you want people to get when visiting your blog. While creativity is key, you want to make sure whichever theme you choose goes hand in hand with your product and/or the service you will provide.

Even if the service is “only” the delivery of content (no shame in that!), it is still a service and the delivery of the product of your digital content. So, keep that in mind when deciding what you want your site to look like.

For an excellent in-depth discussion of these topics, visit this article on setting up your blog: “How to Start a Blog.” Then, come back here and we will continue our discussion on getting those SEO foundational blocks in place.

SEO is King

After you have set up your blog and brainstormed some ideas of what you want to blog about, it’s time to hone in on SEO. Remember, we are still putting together the framework for our search engine optimization foundation even as we build our blog (site), so this is just the right time to do it, remember?

Like we said earlier, SEO is what brings visitors to your blog. It is what keeps the conversation going. It is essential to your success as a blogger, as a publisher of digital content.

Due to the fact that every blog post you write actually becomes a web page, you need to make the most of the SEO opportunity. Write about keyword-rich topics that you would search for online if you were a consumer. SEO is far more than a few strategically placed words throughout your blog.

It is a matter of knowing which words to use, and when. It is also a case of knowing why these keywords and keyword phrases work so well (in drawing traffic). Now, use that knowledge!

The Successful Strategy and Use of Keywords

When used properly, keywords (and keyword phrases) should have the following characteristics:

  • They are only used a handful of times in your post. Overkill of keywords will only have your post flagged as spam by Google.
  • They flow naturally throughout the conversation of the blog post.
  • They are a combination of several words or a single word that directly relates to what you are blogging about in that post (or series of posts).

Continuing Your Success

In the world of online marketing, your focus needs to be on developing a relationship with your visitors. Proper and strategic use of SEO can get the traffic to the site, but you also need to ensure that you keep your audience combing back to the blog/site for more brilliant and entertaining digital content.

This is done through your effective relationship-building process and keeping the conversation going. That is why a well-written blog combined with strategically placed keywords, combined with that personality of YOU, will help build your online reputation and over time, increase traffic to your website. It is like a well-oiled circle. Then again, who oils circles?

Comparing GetResponse and Infusionsoft: What They Have to Offer for Marketing Your Blog

When it comes to building and growing your blog, one of the most important assets is your email list. Not only does it allow you to foster new relationships with your subscribers, but your email list can also turn potential leads into returning customers.

As a digital marketer, you need an email marketing service that you can count on every time. In this GetResponse vs. Infusionsoft review, we will examine two of the most popular email marketing solutions to determine which is best suited for your blog’s e-marketing strategy.

But, before we do our mini-comparison, let’s talk about an important component in marketing, specifically, automation. That is something that is already built-in to most professional email marketing solutions. Without the automation aspect, everything would have to be done manually, and that really isn’t feasible. However, the question is, what automation, who does it best, and where do we find that ideal tool?

Automation is Key

In the video, above, Charles and Deborah talk about the need for automation and even a mention of GetResponse marketing automation, which is similar to HubSpot or Marketo, but priced for the small business market.

Comparing GetResponse and Infusionsoft

Both GetResponse and Infusionsoft are tools that allow you to:

  • Design HMTL newsletters (emails containing photos and graphics) that can be sent to subscribers;
  • Import and host mailing lists, as well as capture data via website sign-up forms;
  • Create automated email to subscribers via autoresponders; and
  • Analyze statistics related to your email marketing efforts such as click-throughs and open rates.

GetResponse

Deemed as the world’s easiest email marketing platform, GetResponse enables you to create lists of prospects, clients, and partners, so you can build relationships with them and create a profitable customer base, understanding the differences between each of these types of relationships.

Marketing Automation

With GetResponse, your customers never feel like a random name in your database. With full CRM integration, you’re able to personalize all of the information you’ve collected through personal emails and inspire action. In addition, GetResponse’s enhanced market automation allows you to:

  • Create the entire user experience with powerful workflows that are easy to use;
  • Design even the most complex of marketing campaigns with a drag-and-drop workflow builder;
  • Utilize e-commerce capabilities to track and take the appropriate action with website visitors, cart abandoners, and successful purchases; and
  • Develop scenarios and views your subscriber’s journeys on your site, in real time.

Landing Page Feature

One of GetResponse’s strong points is its landing page creator. This feature allows business owners to use different templates with a drag-and-drop editor to create a “squeeze” page that’s optimized to capture email addresses.

Infusionsoft

Infusionsoft is designed to solve the biggest of problems for the smallest of businesses. Infusionsoft’s platform allows business owners to manage everyday tasks all in one place. For example:

  • Business owners can find everything they need to know about their customers and potential leads all in one place;
  • It’s possible to organize and import contacts (online and offline) with tagging and precise segmentation;
  • Collect information about your contacts’ behaviors and score them based on their marketing interaction; and
  • Infusionsoft’s CRM allows you to track levels of engagement and create customize follow-up messages.

Final Thoughts

Streamlining your marketing strategy allows you to capture more leads while nurturing current customers. To be successful, digital marketers need to work smarter, not harder. By implementing an automated email-marketing pipeline, you will be able to track prospects as they move from one stage of the journey to another, ensuring that you keep in touch with all of the relevant communication. As a result, you’ll have a clearer picture of possible future revenue within your pipeline.

Both of these solutions (GetResponse and Infusionsoft) really have a lot to offer in the area of automation and understanding the customer. GetResponse gets a few more points, in the area of cart abandonment and traffic tracking, two areas which Infusionsoft does not cover. However, they are both fair providers of email marketing solutions and automation.

The question now, is which one is headed toward being a true competitor of HubSpot and Marketo, but priced for the small business? According to GetResponse, it is them. Infusionsoft would likely say they are well-established, but are they going anywhere beyond their firm footholds? What do you think?

GetResponse and Their New Marketing Automation

If you’re looking for an unbiased, in-depth GetResponse review (even though I personally love GetResponse), you’ve come to the right place. I even solicited assistance in ensuring that this review is unbiased, in spite of what I have already said (in favor of GetResponse) in these two other Dragon Blogger articles:

The thing about the articles above is that they focused on the email marketing aspect. In this review, we add something new (something new by GetResponse, that is). More information on that, in a moment.

Whether you are a seasoned blogger or just starting out, surely you know that an email list is one of the primary sources of income for most professional bloggers who make their living online. When there are exceptions to this rule, it is because the blogger(s) has found another source of income and way of monetizing their blog. For example, here on dragonblogger.com, there are a lot of very reliable and valuable reviews and affiliate income, as a result. However, for many other bloggers who do not have a well established affiliate income review site, they rely on that email list. One of the best reasons to develop an email list is so you can have a group of people who are genuinely interested in your product and are ready to buy.

GetResponse is widely used and quite affordable, even in its capacity as an email marketing tool. Its simplistic functionality allows users to:

  • Create email lists;
  • Hold webinars to boost their email lists; and
  • Easily develop landing pages; and
  • Much more…

Affordability Factor

One of the primary reasons to give GetResponse a try is because of its affordable pricing. Users have access to all of the premium features like analytics, tracking, and split testing for about $15 (up to 1000 subscribers). And, users can start for free and discontinue if they are not satisfied… no money lost! Another added perk is that users can send an unlimited number of emails to their subscribers at no extra cost. (Some other providers add fees for this service.) Some of the most notable features that GetResponse presents include:

  • Split testing;
  • Blog-to-email functionality;
  • Fantastic mobile apps;
  • Quality analytics;
  • Expansive segmentation options; and
  • Excellent autoresponder service and features.

Autorepsonders in GetResponse

GetResponse has optimal autoresponder functionality. Users can trigger autoresponders by action (for instance, when someone clicks a link on an existing email, they are automatically added to a specific set of autoresponders) or data (for example, if someone changes their address in your list). GetResponse also offers a set of triggers that you can choose from such as subscriptions to lists, clicks, opens, URLs visited, and purchases made. All of these can be used to jumpstart an autoresponder cycle. GetResponse adds a personal touch by allowing you to trigger an autoresponder on a subscriber’s birthday. Is that cool, or what?

Marketing Automation Feature

Ok, I promised you something that was really cool, going beyond just the email marketing (although that aspect is really cool, too!), right? Here we go…

There are cool things happening with the GetResponse marketing automation feature, which is definitely worth trying out for yourself. It allows you to create user journeys based on flowcharts and autoresponder cycles. It is like taking email marketing to the next level, exponentially. And, it is a closer comparison to some that HubSpot or Marketo would offer, but priced for the small business.

A/B Testing Made Simple

One of the best ways to increase conversion rates is to perform A/B testing on multiple pages. Also known as split testing, this allows you to create better email newsletters that lead to higher conversion rates. Also, you have the ability to analyze simultaneously, test, and optimize any element of your emails. You can perform split testing on your subject line, CTA (call to action), and the best time of day to send out your emails. Now, imagine adding the marketing automation aspect to the established email automation!

Bonus Points

If your emails are not responsive, you are missing out on a lot of possible conversions. Whether it’s a smartphone, iPad, or another tablet, GetResponse allows your subscribers to read your emails without problems. This feature alone makes GetResponse stand out above its competitors. According to a recent study performed by GetResponse, you can reach 42 percent of new readers and close even more sales if your emails are responsive. So, GetResponse has you covered there! (And, don’t forget to check out some of the reviews of those devices mentioned, here on dragonblogger.com!)

Final Thoughts

Maximizing the effectiveness of your email campaign is what converts leads to returning customers. GetResponse allows savvy digital marketers to make smart decisions in minutes. So what are your thoughts on GetResponse? Don’t forget, we are not limited to only the email marketing aspect, now the marketing automation helps to track the customer on your site and helps you to be your personable self, turning them into a subscriber/long-time customer, with GetResponse’s marketing automation help. So, again, what do you think?

Gadgets, Tips, and Team Collaboration on the Internet

Virtual Teamwork

Virtual Teamwork

Once you have team-building web tools like Hootsuite, Wrike, TeamWork, or other project management tools, as well as communication tools like the multi chat client tools, you may need tips for creative ways to use them with remote team members. Here are five ways to use virtual tools to enhance effective collaboration when working remote.

Introduce New Team Members

Give newbies the inside scoop beforehand, about expectations and how the team functions. Arrange a virtual “meet and greet,” perhaps at the start of your meeting. During that “meet and greet,” ask team members to contribute tips for making the group run smoothly. Engaging everyone helps break the ice of having or being a newbie. Close the meeting by asking the newbies to contribute one or two tips for working with newbies. It is helpful to “require” that some of the more experienced people show up to the “meet and greet,” providing the newbies that company “warmth.” Most newbies will desire to come get a sneak peak on how things operate, so that shouldn’t be a problem to encourage them to attend. Also, by having the “meet and greet,” if there is an employee who needs to be late to the meeting, they have not missed any of the integral parts of the meeting and can still provide a kind greeting to the newbies at the end.

Group-Friendly Guidelines

Considering the global reach of remote teams, understanding the culture of the team and its individual members helps to avoid offending each other. Set up group-friendly guidelines on how the team will function, taking care to consider time zone differences and business practices of different cultures. Allow for exceptions when possible, as long as individual preferences do not infringe on company core values. That is the key, that last sentence. Also, take this into consideration when creating sub-groups or smaller meetings.

Team Bonding

Remote teams miss out on the kind of bonding that happens when employees gather around the company coffee pot or soda machine, but a virtual coffee meeting can bridge that gap. Teambonding.com suggests asking team members to take their laptops to a local coffee shop, and log in using your preferred visual tool to connect for brainstorming or updates. This would be useful especially across different time zones. Further, sending each person a gift card communicates that they are appreciated as they collaborate over coffee. The only thing that needs to be considered is whether or not this meeting infringes on the coffee shop or others who visit the coffee shop. As long as the noise level is not higher than a normal meeting at a coffee shop, it should be fine.

Provide a “Game” Environment

Investigate the chosen communication tool. Many times there are special emojis that allow people to express themselves. There may be an option to raise your hand or indicate when you need to step away for a moment. There may be other tools built-in to the software. Plan a session that is just for having fun with the communication tool and investigating all of the options in a fun, interactive way. It is a great way to ease tension and help the group get unstuck. Another thing to keep in mind is that many times those who are used to adapting to software may not think it is a big deal, but those who are not quite as software-savvy may be scared to use a communication tool that they may not have used previously. This extra, fun, interactive meeting gives them a chance to warm up to the communication tool.

Peer Encouragement

In the same way that in-house counterparts perform their high-fiving in hallways, remote team members need ways to hear and say, “Well done,” amongst their peers. When you reach a milestone or end of a project, take the time to recognize outstanding members or the team as a collaborative bunch who got the job done. Make time to celebrate, recognize, reflect, and regroup. Sometimes, sticky notes come in handy when you have seen excellent teamwork and want to highlight the team members during the next meeting. Just because the rewarding work didn’t take place during the meeting doesn’t mean you cannot recognize it at the next meeting.

Final Thoughts

Just because you may be remote, or mostly comprised of remote workers, don’t let that affect you, as a company or team. Don’t let the part about being remote, stop you from doing “business” in a fun and effective manner. You might just find that more work gets done with some of these creative approaches and methods (tips). Feel free to come back and share what worked for you and your team.

5 Apps that Might Make Travelling Easier

Living now, in the 21st century, has made the enjoyment of traveling that much more exciting and has made it that much easier to facilitate. New applications for smartphones, iPhones, Androids, Tablets, etc. make finding new places a total breeze. Check out some of the most fun and easy apps to use while you are away. We have them listed for you here:

TripAdvisor

iPhone | Android | Windows | Website

The bicycling woman and her tablet.

Available for iPhone, Android, and Windows, this free application is a pit stop for travelers the world over, to enter the name of a city, specify which attraction they would like to visit/review, and then add photographs, personal experiences, and travel tips. It allows everyone, everywhere, to be a travel blogger in their own right!

You can sign up and create a profile, or use the site just to get ideas on where to go. It includes restaurants, accommodations, historical landmarks, nightlife, special events, and even parks and recreation. You can use the app to plan your trip, and even get directions to specific places using the Google Maps technology. Nothing is easier than Trip Advisor to book, review, or get advice on what to do during a trip.

Foursquare City Guide

iPhone | Android | Windows | Website

Foursquare.com has been outdone by younger and more exciting apps such as Snapchat, which is very popular right now and used in place of the conversations that could have, or used to, take place via Foursquare. The difference is that Foursquare is an actual guide just like TripAdvisor, and people use it mainly to check-in, say where they are, and then talk about it. Through the comments, you get a good idea of the place, the type of clientele that are attracted to the site (location, not website), and how similar you are to this defined clientele.

You can still use Foursquare for all of the reasons listed above and pull out the Snapchat while you are there (if that is not considered rude behavior for the establishment). It also shows you maps, gives directions, and is available for, both iPhone and Android platforms. It is listed as being available for Windows, but as of the writing of this article, every time the Windows link was visited (available via the “Website link,” there was an error message to “Try later.” However, I was able to find the link for the Windows version and that is what is show in the above links. So, be aware if you are visiting the Foursquare site that currently (as of the writing), their Windows link isn’t quite providing the goods.

Gogobot

Gogobot is another powerful city guide that has earned awards for accuracy and ease of use. It is also available for Android and iPhone. It is another city guide with ratings from users, which suggests places for you to eat, play, and stay. Gogobot is one of the favorite go-to apps for serious travelers everywhere. It is not as well known as TripAdvisor and other more “hip” applications, but this one is sure to give you what you want in no time.

Travelzoo

iPhone | Android | Windows | Website

This resourceful app not only offers you the city guide experience, but it also shows you local deals and special interests that you may want to check out while visiting that location. Be sure to look for its “Vacation Express,” which is a last minute vacation package getaway discount program. Also available for iPhone and Android, it is an app that is free, easy to use, and a great addition to your travel tools, to use throughout your trip. Though not noted on the Travelzoo website, the Windows app was found by a simple Google search. Travelzoo is one of the longest-standing sites/apps that follow the same format as TripAdvisor, with ratings and reviews from users and travelers.

AroundMe

iPhone | Android | Windows | Website

AroundMe uses the map technology to quickly let you know whatever you want, as far as what nearby attraction is closest to where you are at, at that moment. You just enter where you want to go, and it will pin the places near you, with directions and maps on how to get there. Along the way, you also get reviews from people, ratings, and pictures. The good thing about AroundMe is that you can stick to what you know. If what you like is the bar scene, look no further than typing in “bar,” and they will show up in the list. It is a great, quick guide for when you visit a new city.
